Whittlesea bushfire memorial takes shape

Residents were given an update on the $7 million redevelopment of the Whittlesea Community Activity Centre at a community meeting last week.

Investa Property Group has donated $300,000 towards a memorial hall to honour those who died in the 2009 bushfires.

Residents were told work has begun on temporary buildings that will be ready in July for childcare and kindergarten services.

The immunisation service and senior groups have moved to the Walker Reserve Pavilion.

The council’s family and youth services manager Mary Agostino said: “It [the activity centre] will have a new memorial hall that can cater for up to 200 people, two new maternal and child health consulting rooms, a program room, two multi-purpose rooms including playgroup room, larger kitchen spaces, new administration area, enhanced staff amenities and additional storage.”
