Whittlesea on alert over Artichoke thistle

Whittlesea council has launched an artichoke thistle education campaign in the north-western part of the municipality.

Environmental protection officer Peter Bire said the thistle, a spiny introduced weed, degraded pastures, reduced agricultural productivity and competed with native vegetation.

Council staff will tour the area with GPS mapping equipment identifying infestations.
