WORKERS are preparing for a big pour at the Epping fruit and vegetable market site.
Up to 130,000 tonnes of asphalt will be dumped on the 40 hectare area as part of the next stage of a project to relocate the Melbourne Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market and National Flower Centre in Footscray Road.
A transportable asphalt plant has been moved in to mix and pour asphalt during the year ahead.
It will use a mix of recycled and new material. Senior project manager Colin Geisler (pictured) said while there was an odour associated with asphalting, he was confident the plant was far enough from residents that they would not be affected.
