A Preston locksmith is providing the key to employment for international students at Northern Institute of TAFE’s locksmithing course.
Wynns Locksmiths has eight current or former NMIT international students working for the firm. NMIT’s locksmithing co-ordinator Max Cherry says he taught Wynns owner Steven Wynn 28 years ago at Essendon Technical School.
Malaysian student Steve Pok, 20, (pictured) has been working at Wynns for 15 months. “I love it. It must be in the blood – my father worked as a locksmith,” he said. Gheorghe Olaru, 39, works full-time at Wynns after moving to Melbourne from Romania and studying locksmithing at NMIT. “It’s never boring, every job is different, from simple re-keying to installing a video surveillance system.”
