Demand for fertility services growing in north

DEMAND for fertility services is growing in the northern suburbs, a specialist says.

Northpark Private Hospital in Bundoora has recently opened the City Fertility Centre for couples undergoing fertility treatments.

Specialist Alex Eskander said couples having fertility treatment at the centre could now have their surgical procedures carried out at the nearby Northpark Private Hospital instead of travelling to the city.

“The number of patients seeking fertility help through our Bundoora clinic has steadily grown over the past few years,” Dr Eskander said.

“Now we can attend to patients at the Northpark Private Hospital with the knowledge they won’t have a long commute home ahead of them after what can be an emotional day.”

Dr Eskander said one in six couples had problems falling pregnant, although about 70 per cent of patients at his clinic didn’t need IVF, just treatment and advice.

“Common female infertility issues that are often treatable include endometriosis, ovulation disorders and blockages,” he said. “Sometimes couples also just need help with timing, ovulation induction or artificial insemination.”
