Herb garden tips

Join sustainable-gardening expert Mariette Tuohey on March 28 from 10-11.30am as she explains how to build a wicking bed and demonstrates the best way to grow a herb garden. The free workshop is being run by Western Water and Sunbury Neighbourhood House. Outside Vic’s Food and Wine, at 69 O’Shannassy Street, Sunbury.

Wicking garden beds

Learn to build a wicking (or self-watering) garden bed while you help construct some for the Kenley Court Neighbourhood House in Meadow Heights on Wednesday, March 18, from 10am until 2pm. Drinks and a barbecue lunch are provided.

Musos wanted

The Western Region Concert Band is calling for new members who can play percussion, brass or saxophone. Rehearsals are held on Saturdays from 9am in the Errington Community Centre, Princess Street, St Albans.

Rose Garden open days

The Tibetan Buddhist Society is inviting the community to relax and unwind during its Rose Garden open days on March 21 and 22 from 10am-4pm. Experts will be on hand offering tips on organic, water-wise and sustainable gardening. For groups of eight or more people, $10 per person will cover the cost of entry, Devonshire tea, temple and garden tours. Twilight market

Stallholders are wanted for the next Totally Thomastown twilight market, on March 27 from 4-8pm. The free market features food stalls, live music and family fun.

National Youth Week

For National Youth Week (April 10-19), Whittlesea council’s youth team, Baseline for Young People, is looking for students in years 7 to 10 who are young creatives keen to run art workshops, musicians to entertain shoppers at Westfield Plenty Valley or organisers to help plan and run local events during the week.
