The Northern Football League has announced its preliminary squad for the Metro Championships as it attempts to become the top metropolitan football league in Victoria.
The NFL has included 39 players in the squad ahead of the clash against current champions the Victorian Amateur Football League at Princes Park on March 28.
All 10 clubs in the NFL’s top flight are represented, with reigning premier Greensborough having six players selected.
North Heidelberg’s Shane Harvey is the only player outside division one in the squad.
The team begins training in February and will again be coached by Jason Heatley. Assistant coaches are 2014 grand finalists Robert Hyde and Craig Hunter as well as former Macleod coach Christian Brandt.
The NFL earned the right to play the VAFA after beating the Essendon District Football League in last year’s championships.
