Cricket Victoria’s asylum seeker and refugee cricket tournaments are organised with the same intention, with the addition of spruiking the accessibility and welcoming nature of the game among Australia’s newest residents.
The most recent carnival took place at Jacana Reserve in Broadmeadows last Thursday.
Despite rainy weather and strong winds, about 80 asylum seekers and refugees attended to play a modified eight-a-side match with all equipment, coaches and first aid provided by Cricket Victoria.
