Pascoe Vale drive-by shooting: Sussex Street house hit

A young couple were home when shots were fired into their house in Pascoe Vale on Wednesday night, in an apparent drive-by shooting.

It was the second drive-by to occur in the area in the past four months and came hours before drugs, a pill press and two guns were seized during a raid of another, unconnected home in the suburb.

Police say several shots were fired at the Sussex Street double-storey house at 11.30pm, with three bullets piercing the walls into the stairway and a bedroom.

Moreland Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Paul Kelso said the occupants of the house, a man and woman in their early 20s, were downstairs at the time.

“They heard some bangs, went outside and didn’t see anything. They discovered the damage inside the house (to the plaster) and contacted police,” Senior Constable Kelso said.

He said the couple, who were cooperating with police, told investigators they had “no idea” who was behind the shooting or why they were targets.

Police forensically examined the scene on Thursday morning, searched the vicinity of Sussex and Gaffney Street and will canvass neighbours for witnesses or vision from security cameras.

Senior Constable Kelso said the apparent drive-by shooting was not connected to the seizure of methamphetamine, ecstasy, guns and cash in the suburb on Friday morning.

Police said more than one kilograms of methamphetamine, also known as ice, was seized along with eight kilograms of ecstasy, a handgun, a sawn-off shotgun, two pill presses and $70,000 in cash were found at a home in Daley Street at 1.30am.

A kilogram of ice can carry a street value of $1 million.

A Pascoe Vale man, 24, was arrested when the Melbourne Divisional Response Unit raided the home. He is currently in custody.

The drive-by also follows another shooting in the neighbouring suburb of Glenroy in October where a man woke to find bullet holes in his car, which was parked in the drive-way of the Melbourne Avenue home.

Senior Constable Kelso said police have early indications this shooting was not connected to the latest drive-by.
