Plenty suffered its first loss of the Diamond Valley Cricket Association’s Barclay Shield on Saturday.
After making 223 on day one of the clash with Bundoora United, Plenty watched as United made the score with ease.
Opener Mathew Ross top-scored with 66 for United as his side finished on 5-227.
It was a horrible day with the bat for Epping against Diamond Creek. Chasing 7-251, Epping was skittled for 50.
Only opener Anthony Licovski (26) made double figures.
Old Paradians/St Francis suffered its second successive loss, this time at the hands of Macleod.
Needing 251 for victory, the Wolves’ top order struggled to get going and the Wolves found themselves 5-57.
Shaun Barker and Damian Wegener took the score to 100 to give the Wolves some hope, but both fell when the score was 104.
In the end, the Wolves were bowled out for 150.
Barker top scored with 32.
Bundoora also struggled with the bat against Lower Eltham.
Jesse Eley was the only batsmen for Bundoora who scored more than 20 runs, as they were bowled out for 122. Eley made 45.
In the Money Shield, Lalor Stars won by 11 runs against Eltham.
Mark Minney led Eltham’s chase of the 189 needed to win, but had little support from his teammates.
Five of his teammates scored ducks as Eltham was bowled out for 177.
Steven Kemp took four wickets for the Stars, who as a team conceded a massive 38 extras.
Mernda easily recorded a victory over Hurstbridge.
Having made 8-310 on day one of the match, Mernda restricted Hurstbridge to 174.
The wickets were shared around for Mernda with four players taking two each.
Mill Park fell 12 runs short of victory against Montmerency.
In other matches, Rivergums’ hold on the North Metro Cricket Association’s Jika Shield continues with an outright victory putting it 10 points clear of second place.
Resuming at 0-123 against Olympic Colts with first innings points in the bag, Rivergum looked for quick runs on day two of the match. They declared at 2-217.
In its second innings, Colts could only make 113, giving Rivergum the whole 10 points.
Lalor Warriors also took 10 points as they won outright against Preston YCW District.
Resuming at 1-60 chasing 101, the Warriors made the runs with ease and declared at 6-226, with a lead of 125.
The Warriors made light work of the second innings, bowling the YC’s out for 33.
Nicholas Christie and Todd Hughes took two wickets each.
Darebin Chargers avoided an outright loss, holding out in its second innings against Keon Park.
Keon Park made 8-282 on day one of the clash and the Chargers found themselves well short of the total, bowled out for 94.
The Chargers in their second innings ended the day at 7-183.
Ryan Docherty who made a century in Keon Park’s innings finished with seven wickets for the game.
