Plenty Valley has a challenge on its hands against Altona if it’s to continue its unbeaten start to the season in Victorian Sub-District Cricket’s north-west division.
Electing to bat, home side Altona made 260 on the back of a 165-run partnership between Aaron Maynard and Shane Jones.
Plenty Valley will start its innings on day two next Saturday.
Bats captain-coach Michael Sheedy said
that despite the large total, it was his team’s
best bowling and fielding performance this season.
“We lost the toss on a really good wicket,” he said.
“They were 2-200, then we bowled them out for 260.
“We always knew that once we got a couple of key wickets we could get stuck into the lower order.”
Sean Ayres and Lorenzo Ingram took three wickets each for Plenty Valley.
Sheedy said the Bats were confident of chasing down 260.
“If we can get similar conditions we’re definitely in with a chance,” he said.
“Our strength this season has been with the bat. We’ve lost only three wickets in the last two games, so the guys in the middle order are hungry to have a hit.”
Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows is in the box seat in its clash with Williamstown.

The Kangaroos are 4-45 in their second innings.
