VSDCA: Plenty Valley faces a challenge against Altona

Plenty Valley has a challenge on its hands against Altona if it’s to continue its unbeaten start to the season in Victorian Sub-District Cricket’s north-west division.

Electing to bat, home side Altona made 260 on the back of a 165-run partnership between Aaron Maynard and Shane Jones.

Plenty Valley will start its innings on day two next Saturday.

Bats captain-coach Michael Sheedy said that despite the large total, it was his team’s best bowling and fielding performance this season.

“We lost the toss on a really good wicket,” he said.

“They were 2-200, then we bowled them out for 260.

“We always knew that once we got a couple of key wickets we could get stuck into the lower order.”

Sean Ayres and Lorenzo Ingram took three wickets each for Plenty Valley.

Sheedy said the Bats were confident of chasing down 260.

“If we can get similar conditions we’re definitely in with a chance,” he said.

“Our strength this season has been with the bat. We’ve lost only three wickets in the last two games, so the guys in the middle order are hungry to have a hit.”

Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows is in the box seat in its clash with Williamstown.

Bowling first, the Falcons bowlers were again at their best as they restricted Williamstown to 109, Patrick Matautaava and Mitch Streiff taking three wickets each.

At stumps, the Falcons were 1-62 in reply, with Adam Yates unbeaten on 44.

In the Victorian Turf Cricket Association senior division, Greenvale Kangaroos remain without a win.

After making 168 on day one of their match against Airport West St Christophers, the Kangaroos let St Christophers pull away to a handy 211.

Michael Jones was the best of the bowlers with three wickets.

The Kangaroos are 4-45 in their second innings.

Tullamarine’s score of 201 wasn’t enough for victory against Beaumaris, which chased down the total on its way to 8-248.

Tullamarine was 5-86 in its second innings when the match finished.

Westmeadows remains without a win in north division after its batting order again failed to fire.

Chasing West Coburg’s 170, Westmeadows was bowled out for 83.

West Coburg was 6-78 in its second innings.

Craigieburn avoided an outright defeat against Haig Fawkner in North A1.

Trailing by 172 after the first innings, Craigieburn finished 3-143 in its second innings.

Jacana now sits second on the ladder in north B1 after a dominant display against Maribyrnong Park St Marys.

Jacana made 9-182 before Jack Ottaway took 5-18 in St Marys’ total of 64.
