NMCA: Alex Jesensek’s ton sets up Rivergum’s win over Holy Trinty

A century to Alex Jesensek set up Rivergum’s win against Holy Trinty in the North Metro Cricket Association’s Jika Shield on Saturday.

The decision to bat proved a good one for Rivergum as its top three batsmen all got starts.

Jesensek and Sean Neary put on an opening partnership of 88 before Neary fell for 35.

Matthew Perri joined Jesensek and the runs continued to flow and they took the score to 216 before Perri lost his wicket.

Jesensek finished 132 not out in his side’s total of 2-267.

In reply, Holy Trinty put up a fight but was bowled out for 170.

Daniel Bramich and Darren Hodge took three wickets each for Rivergum.

Lalor Warriors’ 5-138 proved to be just enough against Keon Park.

Keon Park got to 0-33 and looked in control of the game. That’s when things changed  and the team went to 9-108.

A last-wicket partnership between Trent Gleisner and Shane Baker, however, made sure the game went down to the wire, but they fell five runs short of victory.

Keon Park ended its innings at 9-134 in its 40 overs.

In the Quick Shield, Bundoora Park was made to pay for poor batting against Northcote United.

Bowled out for just 68, with none of the top six making double figures, Park needed a miracle with the bowl if it were to win.

An early wicket gave it some hope, but that was short lived as Northcote United made the runs easily and finished at 1-71.

Donath’s batsmen also had a horror day against Heidelberg West.

Chasing 4-192, it never got started and were all out for 62.
