TAC Cup: Calder Cannons appoint Andrew Johnston their coach

Calder Cannons have named Andrew Johnston as coach for the 2015 TAC Cup season.

Johnston, who was development coach with AFL club Gold Coast Suns, is no stranger to the Cannons as he was development manager there from 2005-09.

From 2002-09 he was involved with the Vic Metro under-16 squad as both coach and assistant, and he coached Essendon District Football League side Strathmore in 1999.

AFL Victoria high-performance manager Anton Grbac said the calibre of people who applied for the job was high.

“We know when these positions become available that we will attract well-credentialled candidates who are looking to advance their coaching skills and help develop the players within our talent pathways,” he said.

“To have people who know the system and have been involved before like Andrew and Jeremy [Barnard, new Sandringham Dragons coach] will only benefit the Calder Cannons and Sandringham Dragons programs.”

Andrew Jago stood down as Cannons coach at the end of last season because of work commitments after taking them to the grand final.
