Police hunt firebugs

Whittlesea police are seeking public help to identify the perpetrators of a fire at Epping Plaza on October 1. Constable Dean Packer said a group of men entered Big W about 5pm and approached a silver plastic rubbish bin near a paper towel dispenser. They lit some paper and put it in the bin, causing a small fire. Smoke filled the store and the centre was evacuated. Car stops train in its tracks

A man drove a stolen car on to train tracks at Broadmeadows and set it on fire before fleeing the scene last Tuesday morning. An Upfield train was forced to stop and PSOs escorted the three passengers on board to the nearest platform at Upfield station, about 200 metres away. The line was cleared by 2.10am and safety checks were performed on the track.

Young builder’s a master

Brent Henry, owner of Doreen-based building company BH Prestige Homes, was crowned Master Builders Young Builder of the Year at this month’s Master Builders Excellence in Housing awards. The local resident started his career in 1992 at the company as a plasterer’s apprentice and went on to become a partner. For a home at Mernda, BH Prestige Homes also won the award for Best Display Home between $350,000 and $500,000.
