The 2014 Whittlesea Show organisers are gearing up for a bumper festival to celebrate the event’s 155th anniversary.
About 50,000 people are expected to converge on the Whittlesea showgrounds during the weekend of November 1 and 2 to witness show-jumping horses; sheep and alpaca; cattle and calf-rearing; and dairy goat competitions, as well as arts and crafts expos.
The show has come a long way from its beginnings in 1859 when it was known as the Whittlesea Fair, becoming a renowned agricultural event.
Other highlights this year include a decorated bra competition, which will raise money for the McGrath Foundation, and a Red Poll cattle show on the Sunday.
Cattle superintendent and organiser of the Red Poll show, Ross Draper, says a group of 35 competitors, currently touring Australia, will make their way to Whittlesea for the event.
