Hire car pair arrested

Police arrested a 21-year-old man and 26-year-old woman on Providence Road, Greenvale, last Wednesday morning and charged them over a stolen car, stolen number plate offences, and for possessing a firearm. Acting Detective Sergeant Costakis Costa, of the Hume burglary crime reduction team, said the pair was believed to be linked to stolen number plates from Frankston, Mornington and Dandenong. Police allege the pair hired a car from Melbourne Airport and failed to return it.

Primary school tenders out

The tender process to build 13 new primary schools, including Epping North, Mernda South and Mill Park Lakes East, in growth suburbs
across Melbourne opened last
week. The school infrastructure
project is expected to cost
$223 million with building to be completed in time to accept
students for the 2017 and 2018
school years.

Local action secures centre

The Whittlesea Community Activity Centre has reopened, with a new memorial hall, an extended library and a new kindergarten and maternal child and health service. Whittlesea CAC will also remain an emergency relief centre, as it was for several weeks during the devastating 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. The upgraded centre resulted from a petition put forward by more than 300 residents.
