EDFL: Craigieburn signs up ex-AFL brothers Jason and Cameron Cloke

Former AFL players Jason and Cameron Cloke have joined Craigieburn Football Club in the Essendon District Football League next season.

The club announced on Tuesday night they had signed the brothers for next year to play in division 1.

Jason spent the last four years playing with Spotswood in the Western Region Football league, including the club’s 2011 division 1 premiership.

Younger brother Cameron has been playing with Bundoora in the Northern Football League over the same period.

Cameron won two division 1 premierships with the Bulls and was the 2013 Frank Rosbrook Trophy winner for the league’s best player.

Eagles president Brian Hall said the announcement had already created some excitement at the club.

“We identified that to improve as a team we needed some key forwards up forward and we worked hard to get these players to fill this gap,” he said.

“There’s the incentive for Cameron and Jason to play together again, but I think they saw the direction the club is going from getting itself from a struggling club to a strong club again.”

Hall said the signings would also benefit the younger players.

“We started to come together as a team in the last half of the year. We found we needed a couple of targets to add to that.

“We have a young side and they will be the future of our club, so having experienced players will help the players develop.”

The Eagles will kick off preseason on November 17.
