Pedestrians can cross McKimmies Road without fearing for their lives, with Whittlesea mayor Mary Lalios having switched on new traffic lights opposite RMIT’s Bundoora campus just over a week ago.
Cr Lalios was joined by members of the local soccer academy for the first crossing of McKimmies Road using the new pedestrian-operated traffic lights.
The lights, which cost $160,000, are aimed at removing community fears about crossing the road by foot or on bike to get to the university or Mill Park Primary School.
They were funded in the council’s new works program.
