NPL: Injury-hit Whittlesea United no match for North Geelong Warriors

Injury-hit Whittlesea United had to use three goalkeepers as they went down 2-0 to North Geelong Warriors in National Premier League 1 on Saturday.

The Ranges lost Dianoush Rasoulzaden- Syesan and Jarrod Hill to injury in the away match to the second-placed Warriors, meaning outfield player Kliment Dimitrieski had to take the gloves for the final 15 minutes.

Ranges had the first real attempt at goal through Dimitrieski, but the Warriors survived the early minutes without conceding before scoring themselves through midfielder Vito Cichello.

Warriors were unlucky not to double the lead before half-time. But Robbie Zadworny made it 2-0 for the Warriors within the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Despite continuing to control the rest of the game, the Warriors couldn’t score a third.

The result leaves the Ranges 13th on the 14-team ladder with a 5-4-13 record and 19 points, nine clear of Brunswick City.

Ranges have the bye this week.

In NPL, Hume City lost 2-0 in its clash with Heidelberg 2-0 at Broadmeadows Valley Park on Sunday.

The score was 0-0 at half-time, before Heidelberg got its first goal through Dan Heffernan in the 67th minute.

City looked for an equaliser but couldn’t find one before Heidelberg made sure of the win with a second goal, also to Heffernan, in the 90th minute. The loss leaves City sitting in fifth spot with 11 wins.
