Man-made drugs the problem
[Re: Cannabis saved Tara, Star Weekly, August 5]: Amphetamines continue to get prescribed to more children every day. Yet how can amphetamine, a drug known to send people insane, be safe for children? These are the real drugs of addiction or, as medical professionals like to call it, “dependence”. I still have never met a weed-user whose life has been degraded by cannabis use. All the people I know who have been to rehab went there for prescription abuse – not the hard drugs the media frowns upon, but normal over-the-counter medicines.
Man-made drugs are known for their problems and endless list of side-effects. There are also drugs to treat those side- effects which, in turn, fix nothing but alter people’s minds with substances that are unnatural. Why do all approved medicines have to be unnatural?

Time to change the law
Attention (Health Minister) David Davis: time to fire your ‘spokesman’ for lying in your name. There’s no evidence that cannabis is more harmful than imprisonment for consensual adult use or seizures experienced by children. When harm caused by being unable to use cannabis exceeds the harm caused by its prohibition, it’s time to legalise and regulate.

A ridiculous approach
When politicians begin to differentiate between medical cannabis and regular cannabis, we’ll get somewhere with changing the regulations. At the moment they are lobbing them together, which is ridiculous. Politicians are supposed to be intelligent people and yet they can’t manage this small task.

Let’s get our priorities right
[Re: Bikies in rights fight, Star Weekly, August 5]: I seriously doubt that Victoria Police have the resources or the inclination to pull over every group of “three or more riders” just to inconvenience them. If they do, answer the questions honestly and you’ll be on your way. Instead of protesting at these laws, why not protest at gang-related crime?
