Campbellfield crush death probe
A man died on Friday morning as a result of an industrial accident in Campbellfield. Police say the man, aged in his 40s, was crushed when a vertical paper stacker fell. A police spokeswoman said the stacker fell some time between 8.30am and 9.40am. Police and the Victorian Workcover Authority are investigating and will prepare a report for the coroner.
Meadow Heights unit burns
Eighteen firefighters took about 30 minutes to control a blaze that severely damaged a single-storey unit in Rocklands Rise, Meadows Heights, overnight. Neighbours called firefighters about 2am, but the unit was well alight by the time fire crews, including CFA units, arrived. Nobody was home at the time of the fire.
Pub robbery arrests
Four young men from Hume were arrested at a Coburg motel following an armed robbery at an Essendon hotel on Wednesday. Two of the men, both aged 21 and from Broadmeadows, were released pending further inquiries, while a 20-year-old from Broadmeadows and a 23-year-old from Roxburgh Park remained in custody. Detectives arrested the four in relation to a Keilor Road robbery, in which it was reported two males had entered the hotel
armed with a firearm and knife about 1.15am.
