Arrests follow biker raids

Two Hume men were arrested over an alleged serious assault during raids on Melbourne clubhouses and homes linked to the Comancheros bikie gang. A 23-year-old Oak Park man and a 24-year-old Broadmeadows man are in custody and being interviewed in relation to an alleged assault of a 29-year-old at a business in Johnston Street, Collingwood, last Monday.

Waterview Reserve open

Whittlesea’s premier sports ground, Waterview Community Reserve is open for use with two sports ovals and a car park for more than 250 cars. It will be further developed with a community pavilion, an outdoor training facility and other sports infrastructure in the future and will be home to the Mernda football, cricket and calisthenics clubs.

Big light switch for Hume

Residential streets across Hume will receive lighting upgrades from this month with 9120 inefficient 80-Watt mercury vapour lights being replaced with energy efficient T5 fluorescent lighting. The upgrades will take part in two stages, with 4612 replacements being made from Sunbury through to Broadmeadows by the end of the year. The remaining replacements will roll out across Meadow Heights through to Craigieburn in 2015. The project will be delivered in partnership with Jemena and funded by the council and the federal government’s Community Energy Efficiency Program.
