EDFL: Eagles improve division 1 odds with win over Hillside

Craigieburn kept alive its hopes of staying in division 1 of the Essendon District Football League with a win against Hillside on Saturday.

The Eagles flew out of the blocks at D.S. Aitken Reserve with four goals to one in the first quarter and raced to 49-point lead by half-time.

The Sharks cut the margin in the third quarter, but the Eagles did enough in the last term to win 17.13 (115) to 11.14 (80).

The Eagles are still on the bottom of the ladder but are now only one game behind Oak Park and Hadfield.

Elsewhere, Westmeadows defeated Hadfield by 29 points.

The Tigers kicked five goals to one in the final quarter to extend a five-point three-quarter time lead to the final result of 13.13 (91) to 8.14 (62).

In division 2, Roxburgh Park bounced back from its first loss of the season last week to beat Keilor Park 11.5 (71) to 3.14 (32).

The opening quarter saw the Devils have more scoring shots but wasteful kicking saw them trail by 13 points.

The Magpies stepped up in the second quarter and kept the Devils goalless while kicking 2.1 to lead by 22.

That lead was extended to 40 points at three-quarter time and both kicked only one goal in the last quarter.

Reece Tarczon was best on ground with three goals for Roxburgh Park.

Jacana remains in fifth position on the ladder despite losing 18.10 (118) to 15.9 (99) against Coburg Districts.

The Jaguars were made to pay for a goalless first quarter and couldn’t reduce the margin after that.
