Hail, can-do Kangan

As Kangan Institute celebrates a decade of specialist Aboriginal education this week, the Broadmeadows-based tertiary studies provider will throw open its doors to students of all cultures on Saturday.

“Open day is a great opportunity to experience the buzz of campus life for yourself and find out what you could be studying in 2015,” spokeswoman Kate McDonald said.

“It’s also a great chance for parents to get their kids inspired for life after high school, and even get involved in the fun of the day.”

Among activities, visitors can join the institute’s legal team for a mock trial, present evidence and be cross-examined by prosecution and defence.

They can work up some mocktail magic, learn to make pasta with the hospitality crew, or watch an engineering demonstration as students create a brazier. They might also watch a security demonstration of defensive tactics or learn to interpret X-rays with an airport screening simulator.

Teachers and industry sector partners will be on hand to answer questions about further study for students enrolling straight after secondary studies, or they can help people looking to change careers or re-enter the workforce. Kangan Institute’s open day is at the Broadmeadows campus from 10am until 4pm. To register for it, visit www.kangan.edu.au/open-day and be in the running to win a prize.
