EDFL: East Keilor inflicts the season’s first loss on Roxburgh Park

Roxburgh Park suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, going down by 24 points to East Keilor in the top-of-the-table clash in division 2 of the Essendon District Football League.

Nothing separated the teams in the first half and the table-topping Magpies led by four points at half-time at Overland Reserve.

But the third quarter made the difference as the Cougars kicked six goals straight to Roxburgh Park’s 1.4, to lead by 22 at three-quarter time.

Both teams kicked only one goal in the last quarter and East Keilor went on to win 12.8 (80) to 8.8 (56).

Roxburgh Park remain on top of the ladder, still one game clear of East Keilor.

Jacana slipped out of the top four after losing 13.16 (94) to 9.7 (61) against Moonee Valley.

Valley jumped out of the blocks with 11 scoring shots to the Jaguars’ two in the opening quarter and then held on all day.

In premier division, Greenvale thrashed the Northern Saints by 111 points at Greenvale Recreation Reserve.

The Jets took control after quarter time, kicking at least six goals in each of the last three quarters to win 21.17 (143) to 4.8 (32).

Ben Clifton kicked five for the Jets as 12 players got on the scoreboard.

The win leaves the Jets one game outside the top four ahead of a clash with top side Strathmore this week.

In division 1, Tullamarine bounced back after a loss last week to beat Craigieburn by 83 points.

The Demons were never in danger, extending the lead at every break to win 20.12 (132) to 7.7 (49)
