Antonietta Caruso, who gave birth to Aiden, Romeo and Xavier on May 15 last year, is used to standing out in a crowd.
The 26-year-old Thomastown mother of identical triplet boys says she is often stared at in public and struggles learning the ropes of motherhood with three boys.
The odds of conceiving triplets are often widely exaggerated, according to the Australian Multiple Births Association (AMBA).
The volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation says the chances of conceiving triplets range from one in 60,000 to one in 200 million.
But at any rate, Ms Caruso’s gynaecologist told her she’s the first to give birth to identical triplets in Victoria.
They were born at just under 27 weeks, two healthy but the youngest, Aiden – who was also the lightest at 300 grams – is behind his age benchmarks.
Before her pregnancy Ms Caruso worked in the bridal industry. She’s now a “full-time mum”. “I’m up at 6.30am until 9.30pm each day.”
