Farewell to an old Mernda Football Club favourite

When Mernda station closed in 1959, the stationmaster’s house was transported to the Mernda Recreation Reserve to serve as a clubroom for the footy team.

Fast-forward more than 50 years and it’s still there serving the Mernda Demons but with a few reinforcements and beams to keep it upright.

Those at Mernda Football Club are unlikely to miss the building when they relocate to rooms at Woodland Waters Recreation Reserve.

Club president Jason Berry said time had not been kind to the old rooms and reserve.

“When it’s wet it becomes unplayable here.”

To mark the move the committee is hosting an event on August 23. It’s encouraging the community to come wearing their old Mernda gear to a barbecue lunch.
