Overlooking picturesque landscapes with a backdrop of magnificent sunsets, Woodlands Historic Park is a gem in the midst of Melbourne’s suburban north.
The park in Greenvale has dams, great views, old ruins, kangaroos and about 70 different species of birds . . . as well as peace and quiet.
Local photographer Andrew Haysom stumbled on the Woodlands park almost by accident and is still surprised so few people know about it.
“It’s very close to home and it’s so quiet,” he said. “You could walk for miles and not see anyone.”
Haysom has found lots to explore at Woodlands, and is especially fascinated by its many species of wildlife. He held an exhibition at Hume Global Learning Centre last week to showcase his landscape and wildlife photographs publicly.
A large part of the park has a predator-proof fence to protect the eastern barred bandicoot, but the public can still access this area.
“I want to encourage others to use the park,” Haysom said, “as long as Woodlands isn’t damaged.
“I’d do everything I could to make sure nothing happens to the park,” he said.
