Doreen: Police probe girl’s attempted abduction

Epping police is investigating the attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl in Doreen.

The Grade-4 student was riding her bike home from Laurimar Primary School along Painted Hills Road, just south of Woolworths supermaket, on June 12 when a man allegedly attempted to grab her by the neck.

He then ran in front of her bike to obstruct her path. She veered around him, then crossed Painted Hills Road at the Almorah Street crossing, at which point he gave up the chase.

The man is described to be in his 30s with olive skin, a moustache and being of a thin-to-medium build. At the time he was dressed head-to-toe in black and smelt of cigarette smoke.

Laurimar Primary School principal Jason McBean has sent a letter to all parents warning them of the incident.

“Clearly this is disturbing behaviour from a totally unfamiliar person and it is a timely reminder for all parents/carers to have a conversation around “Stranger Danger,” he said in his letter.

He has asked parents whose children walk or ride to school to instruct them to make their way straight to school without stopping at shops on the way.

Epping Police’s Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
