Knife threats in Epping robbery
A cashier at an Epping pokies venue was threatened at knife-point and forced to hand over cash during an armed robbery on June 2. Police said four men drove to the venue, on O’Herns Road about 6.30pm. They “menaced” staff and patrons before entering the cashier’s area. The men threatened the female cashier with a knife and forced her to empty the till and hand over cash before fleeing in a Holden sedan. The men were described as wearing dark-coloured clothes and hooded tops. Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
Man questioned over drive-bys
A 40-year-old Epping man has been released pending further inquiries after he was arrested last week following a series of drive-by shootings in the Thomastown, Mill Park and Campbellfield areas. Whittlesea Crime Investigation Unit detectives interviewed the man last Wednesday.
A police spokeswoman said late last week the investigation was ongoing.
Collective bid on climate change
Whittlesea council has this month begun working with eight councils to develop a regional approach to tackle climate change. The council is working with councils from Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Manningham, Melbourne, Moreland, Nillumbik and Yarra to assess the impacts of climate change and how to reduce its effect on northern suburbs communities. The program will run for a year.
