Dallas: One-stop shop for community services

Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre’s settlement services have been relocated to the former Ericsson building in Riggall Street, Dallas.

Spectrum chief executive Rosemary Kelada said feedback had been “very encouraging” following the decision to develop the former industrial building as the Hume Community Service Hub.

The new centre includes AMES, Uniting Care Kildonan, Brite disability employment and training, and the Salvation Army’s Crossroads programs.

“We are confident that more service providers will join us,” Ms Kelada said.

“It has proved to be a perfect place, close to public transport and in the vicinity of several schools.”

Hume council has also advertised to use the site grounds as a weekend market. A report on the market proposal is due to go to the council next month.

Spectrum settlement and family services general manager Ewa Zysk said Dallas was a perfect location.

“Dallas appears consistently among Victoria’s most disadvantaged areas in terms of employment opportunities.

“With the average household on a yearly income of about $31,000 and a lower than average percentage of the population with year 12 or equivalent, a stronger Hume Community Service Hub will make it easier for communities to use existing services and for service providers to work in a collaborative way.”
