Essendon’s VFL side booted eight goals to four after half-time to defeat the Northern Blues by 44 points on Saturday. The Bombers won the Windy Hill game 16.11 (107) to 8.15 (63). After an even first quarter, Essendon started to gain control of the game, taking a 14-point lead into the main break. The Bombers blitzed Northern in the third quarter, extending their lead to 33 by three-quarter-time. Thomas Wilson was best for the Blues with two goals, while Ciaran Sheean also played well.

Jacana’s women’s football team lost to Port Melbourne Colts by 120 points on Sunday. Jacana was kept scoreless in the first three quarters, while the Colts kicked at least three goals in every term to win 19.15 (129) to 1.3 (9). Lakita Seifago was best for Jacana, booting the team’s only goal. The blowout loss came after Jacana’s coach faced the tribunal during the week, having received a yellow card against Melton Centrals. Sharron Kelly-Campbell was found not guilty of conduct unbecoming from the sidelines.

Craigieburn Eagles lost to Chelsea Gulls 93-91 in Big V men’s division 1 on Sunday. The Eagles, down 11 points at three-quarter-time, came out firing in the final term,but the margin proved too great. Liam Watt top-scored for Craigieburn with 22 points. The women’s team lost to Werribee Devils, 72-55.
