SORRY DAY WALK

Join Whittlesea Reconciliation Group members in commemorating National Sorry Day on Monday, May 26 from 10am-1pm. A public event will be held in council’s Great Hall at 25 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang, followed by the annual Sorry Day walk. There will be a traditional Welcome to Country, guest speaker Alkira Edwards will share her family’s story, Wurundjeri Elder Ian Hunter will perform a fire ritual and a new Sorry Space will be opened. Flags around the city will be flown at half-mast in recognition of the day.

EIGHTEES NIGHT

Dance the night away on Friday, May 30, from 7.30pm at Broadmeadows Leisure Centre, corner of Dimboola Road and Pearcedale Parade. Cost $12, $5 for carers (companion and carer cards welcome). This is an alcohol and smoke-free event for young adults aged 18+ of all abilities.

LOCAL POLICING

Learn about policing in your community from senior officers from Epping, Mill Park and Whittlesea police stations, members of the Whittlesea criminal investigation unit and highway patrol. This free session will cover crime prevention, youth issues and family violence, Neighbourhood Watch, road and general policing. BE A ‘GREEN MACHINE’

Whittlesea council’s “green machine”, in conjunction with Friends of Darebin Creek, needs help to plant 5000 trees and shrubs in new areas of Quarry Hills Park on Sunday, May 25. The location at 105 Hunters Lane, South Morang

will be revegetated with the preferred habitat of woodland bird species, many varieties of which are returning to local reserves. Bring sturdy shoes, a hat and rain coat if wet. All tools and gloves supplied, plus light refreshments; 10am-1pm.

FAIRYTALE WITH A TWIST

Playwright Jason de Santis brings a Tiwi twist to old favourite Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in his modern Aboriginal fairy story played out with puppets, song and dance. Wulamanayuwi and the Seven Pamanui is a joyful romp through a familiar myth, complete with magic and adventure and narrated by Jarparra, the Moon Man. Friday, May 23, 11am-12.30pm, at Yan Yean Theatre, 35 Ferres Boulevard, South Morang. Tickets: $20-$25, teachers and carers free.
