Craigieburn boxer Jack Bowen given fighting chance

Young Craigieburn boxer Jack Bowen is punching above his weight, winning gold at the recent Australian titles after dominating several other competitions in the past year.

Last week, McEwen MP Rob Mitchell handed the 16-year-old a $500 federal government Local Sporting Champions grant, for his consistent success in boxing competitions around the country.

Mr Mitchell said Jack had the talent, drive and determination to make it in the boxing world.

“Watching him train, I can see the fire that drives him to win,” Mr Mitchell said. “It’s inspiring stuff. Jack is a fine athlete.”

Jack craves the challenge that boxing provides him. “I have been dedicated to my training for the past five years, training four to five nights a week, sometimes six, and also participating in sparring on weekends with other gyms,” he said. “I never say no to a competitive fight.
I love to compete and work harder and harder every time.”

The $500 grant will go towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms and equipment when competing in official competitions around Australia and internationally.

The next round of grants closes June 30. For more details, phone 5783 4880 or visit bit.ly/1jmbTeC
