An entry by Greenvale’s Sue de Vanny has been chosen for the Australasian Quilt Convention’s 10th anniversary exhibition, starting on Thursday, April 10.
The biggest quilting event in the southern hemisphere, the exhibition will feature 30 quilts from around the nation that best interpret this year’s theme – the number 10.
An accomplished painter, de Vanny began quilting 10 years ago.
She won the Art Quilt prize at the Craft & Quilt Fair last year, and success has spurred her on to extend her repertoire.
After four months experimenting, planning and executing her uniquely Melbourne tram design (pictured), the artist says the vintage gem that is Melbourne’s tram transport system is a perfect fit in the modern city she loves.
The technique of applique was used to attach the tram to the quilt, with machine stitching and hand-beading skills used for the quilt’s finer details.
The Australasian Quilt Convention at the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne, runs from April 10-13, 10am-4.30pm.
