YOUR VOICE: October 22-28

MY SHOUT: This is the time (Weekly, October 22)

The difference between us climate change deniers and you fear-mongering believers is that deniers don’t think 30 years of scientists agreeing it could be a crisis is a good enough reason to believe in condemning billions of helpless children to a CO2 crisis.

Not one IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) warning says anything beyond “could be” a crisis. You say it will be a crisis while science only says it could be a crisis. How is this not pure fear mongering on your part, doomers?

Melbourne Airport chief hits back at Planning Minister’s quip (Weekly, online)

Airports contribute to carbon emissions. People should stay home. Airports should be shut down, not expanded. Clean air. Happy families. No cost. Taxes directed to real needs, Mr Chris Woodruff [Melbourne Airport chief executive].

Sunbury will always live on the edge, says minister (Weekly, October 15)

I congratulate Planning Minister Matthew Guy on a well-documented and well-planned outcome for Sunbury as part of the government’s 40-year vision, called Plan Melbourne.

We need a plan for Sunbury’s growth but, more importantly, we need a plan for jobs and commerce in Sunbury. As the just-past vice-president of the Sunbury Business Association, I know only too well the lack of employment opportunities for our community.

Sunbury needs not only residential development but commercial, manufacturing and industrial development.

It’s all well and good having a good public transport system taking Sunbury residents into Melbourne, but we need to reverse the tide, for the economic good of us all. By bringing workers back into town, we revitalise our retailers and our retail precincts. We also give groups like apprentices good opportunities to work near home. This, in turn, provides good opportunities for all of us to be more involved in our great community and its groups (like SES, Sunbury fire brigade, SunFest and Relay for Life).

I applaud Mr Guy on his plan for Victoria, Melbourne and Sunbury. It’s just the injection that our community needs.
