VSDCA: Plenty Valley easily, RPB undefeated

Plenty Valley crushed Preston by 270 runs on Saturday but didn’t have the time to chase outright points in north-south First XI.

The crushing 5-383 to 113 win was still enough to put Plenty Valley top of the division on percentage, ahead of fellow unbeaten teams Ormond and Malvern (all 12 points).

Preston fell in a 3-9 hole chasing the monstrous target at Preston City Oval and never recovered.

Justin Jaensch (4-39) and Sean Ayres (3-18) were best of the bowlers for Plenty Valley.

Preston used 41.1 overs making its first-innings score, meaning only quick wickets would suffice if Plenty Valley was to get the outright after enforcing the follow-on.

But Preston steadied to make 1-45 off the first nine overs of its second dig before stumps was called.

Plenty Valley hosts Ormond at EE Gunn Reserve in a one-dayer this Saturday.

In Second XI, Hayden Einsiedel (37) top-scored as Plenty Valley beat Preston by five wickets. Chasing 125 for victory, Plenty Valley passed the target five down before finishing 145 all out.

In Third XI, Plenty Valley was all out for 90 in reply to Preston’s 159.

In east-west First XI, Roxburgh Park-Broadmeadows has two from two after its 202 proved too many for Mt Waverley to chase (117 all out).

Bryce Preston (4-19), was best of the bowlers as RPB had Mt Waverley all out in 66 overs.

RPB elected to bat a second time, making 5-51 off 21 overs before stumps was called.

In Second XI, Mt Waverley successfully defended 117 by bowling out RPB for 102.
