Greenvale slipped out of Premier Cricket’s top eight after 65-run loss to Melbourne at the Albert Ground on Saturday.
The Kangaroos are on a two-game losing streak and have dropped to 11th (of 18) in the division with eight points after falling short in a run chase.
Melbourne’s 4-227 off 50 overs was enough, as Greenvale was all out for 162 by the 47th over in reply.
Melbourne won the toss and elected to bat, with Andrew Kent (42), Mathew Begbie (56), Alex Keath (61no) and Matthew Brown (38) all among the runs as Greenvale struggled to break partnerships.
Chris Marantelli (1-20) was the best of the bowlers as Greenvale had no multiple wicket-takers.
Greenvale struggled to get a foothold in the chase, with a collapse of 5-34 hollowing out its middle order and leaving the Roos 6-77.
James Damjanovski (38) and Ramneet Dhindsa (28) rallied with a 58-run stand for the seventh wicket but the damage was done.
Greenvale plays Hawthorn-Monash University (18th, two points) at Greenvale in its first two-dayer of the season starting on Saturday.
