Hume residents battling serious health issues

More than half the people living in Hume are overweight and don’t eat the recommended daily dose of fresh fruit and vegetables.

They smoke more than the Victorian average, they bet more of their money on the pokies, they’re more stressed, they breast feed their babies less, and the diabetes rate has increased by a staggering 238 per cent in the past 10 years.

Hume council’s draft health and wellbeing plan for the next four years presents concerning statistics extracted from its partnerships with community health, service agencies and sport and recreation clubs throughout the municipality.

The plan has been put on public exhibition until November 12.
