Craigieburn: Army called in to help in police bikie raid

Police and the Australian Army raided a truck depot linked to Hell’s Angels office bearer Peter ‘‘Skitzo’’ Hewat on Saturday morning.

More than a dozen police and army personnel were at the raid at 32 Technical Drive, Craigieburn to remove a prime mover and its components about 9am.

An army truck and crane was brought in to lever the prime mover from the industrial property. Army officers were removing parts of the prime mover to allow it to be towed. It took two hours to shift the prime mover and three police cars escorted the army truck to a police location.

A Victoria Police spokesman said the prime mover and its components are believed to be stolen.

There was tension at the scene as police executed the warrants with two men attempting to enter the property at the same time, Channel Seven reported.

Taskforce Echo detectives carried out the raid, which is linked to other bikie gang raids and arrests in Melbourne on Thursday.

Hells Angels office bearer Peter Skitzo” Hewat is in custody and is due to face 17 charges on Friday relating to the possession of weapons and ammunition. A title search shows the property is owned by Skyetrans Pty Ltd, and Mr Hewat is the director.

Mr Hewat, the East County sergeant-at-arms, was refused bail on Thursday after police argued he was an ‘‘unacceptable risk’’. He will appear again in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday, next week.

The raids on Thursday were the largest police operation targeting a single bikie gang in Victoria’s history.
