ICING ON THE CAKE

If you love the designs, such as icing or cute fondant creatures, on special-occasion cakes, then this cake decorating class is for you. Term 4 classes for cake decorating run weekly and begin on Thursday, October 17, 4pm-6pm or 7pm-9pm, at Hume Homestead and Community Learning Centre, 30 Whiltshire Drive, Roxburgh Park. Enrolments close Thursday, October 10.

A HINDU CELEBRATION

The Northern Gujarati Association of Melbourne is hosting Navaratri, one of the most celebrated festivals of the Hindu calendar. In Hindi, Navaratri means ‘nine nights’. The festival is dedicated to the worship of deity Shakti, who promotes power and removes negativity. The alcohol-free event includes traditional dance and a pooja (prayer). It’s on Saturday, October 12, 7pm-11.30pm, at RMIT University Netball Centre, Bundoora campus west, Plenty Road, Bundoora. Cost (light pre-packed dinner included): $8 adult, $6 children (those under 5 admitted free). Bookings required.

WHAT’S NEW IN THE NORTH

Epping north residents are invited to a free information evening to hear about what’s happening in the area, including progress on the Epping Views Family and Community Centre, an update on the planned Community Activity Centre on Mossfield Rise, and the opportunity to speak with council staff involved in planning and infrastructure. A light supper will be provided. On Thursday, October 10, 7.30pm-9.30pm, at Epping Views Family and Community Centre, 15 Lyndarum Drive, Epping. MAKING AN E-SALE

GET A MOVE ON

Moving FWD is a free eight-week program for teens aged 15-19 who have disengaged from education or employment. The program explores practical job skills and education pathways and helps with personal development and confidence issues, resilience tools, living skills and team dynamics. The program will be held at locations across Hume. A limit of 10 participants for the program is in place. Referrals are now being taken. Starts Thursdays, October 17, from 10am-2pm, and runs twice a week until Sunday, December 14, at Craigieburn Youth Centre, 59 Craigieburn Road.

DARK DAYS ARE OVER

If you regularly succumb to negative moods, this free workshop will give you tips on how to better manage them. The session includes proven techniques that are used by clinical psychologists. On Wednesday, October 9, from 10.30am-noon, at The Age library, 1093 Pascoe Vale Road.

HUME ROCK CITY

As part of Hume Festival of Music, Youth Rock showcases the best young talent in the Hume area. From young singers to start-up bands, this free event features locals displaying their musical skills. The festival also includes a sausage sizzle and drinks available for purchase. On Saturday, October 12, from noon-2pm, at Craigieburn library, 75-95 Central Park Avenue.
