Suspicious fires at Broadmeadows car dealership

Two fires which destroyed about 20 vehicles at a car yard in Broadmeadows were lit in suspicious circumstances, police say.

Firefighters spent more than an hour battling the blazes at the car yard on Camp Road, Broadmeadows, about 1.20am on Saturday.

Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson said up to 20 vehicles had been destroyed and investigators were treating the fires as suspicious.

The cause of the fires is not yet known and investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the fires.

A Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman said 46 firefighters were dispatched to douse the “difficult” blaze.

“It was hard for the firefighters to access the cars,” he said.

“And it was a windy night, which obviously adds to the fire and smoke spread.”
