Whittlesea’s delivered meal service is more than just a meal, it
is a donation of time and companionship, says volunteer resource officer
Catherine Neil.
The city’s meals delivery team is inviting community members to
take part in an afternoon of celebration for National Meals on Wheels
Day tomorrow.
The meal delivery’s base, Barry Road Community Activity Centre in
Thomastown, will be open for people to visit throughout the day.
Whittlesea community services director Russell Hopkins and
councillor Ricky Kirkham will head out to experience the delivery run
from 9.30am-11.30am.
Visitors and volunteers are invited to take part in a morning tea at the centre from 11.30am-12.30pm.
There are 53 volunteers and four staff who deliver meals to 180 clients from Monday to Friday. Ms Neil said the group was always on the lookout for new volunteers.
Hume volunteers cater for more than 200 clients, five days a week.
