Planning our space

Stacey and Simon Brice love taking children Isabella, 6, and
Eliza, 3, to Mill Park Lakes Recreation Reserve.

And because the South
Morang family wants to ensure there’s plenty of open space in the city
of Whittlesea for future generations, they’re taking part in a council
survey to decide how open spaces in the municipality are designed and
managed over the next decade.

Mayor Rex Griffin says open spaces include
parks, gardens, reserves, waterways and urban plazas. “Everybody knows
how important parks and reserves are and that they enhance the
liveability of Whittlesea,” he says.

“We need to understand what
residents value about their local park and any issues that limit its
use.”

More than 40,000 surveys are being mailed out in Bundoora, Epping,
Lalor, Thomastown, Mill Park, South Morang and Whittlesea township.
Residents have until September 15 to reply.
