Spring is arriving, officially, on Sunday and Hume council is ready to celebrate.
Hume’s spring planting day is scheduled for Wednesday,
September 4, from 10am until 3pm at Broadmeadows Valley Park. The event
ties in with Biodiversity Month and next week’s acknowledgement of
Landcare volunteers around Australia.
Prospective participants are urged to register with Hume’s
Greening team for a plant-out of diverse indigenous trees, shrubs,
grasses, wildflowers and groundcovers to act as a windbreak around a
very important patch of native grasslands in Broadmeadows.
The grasslands are among Victoria’s most endangered flora. The
windbreak will reduce weeds from blowing in, and provide sources of food
and shelter for local wildlife.
Participants may park at the Broadmeadows Dog Obedience Club in
the John Ilhan Memorial Reserve, and are asked to come in sensible
clothes, sturdy shoes and hats.
The council will supply drinking water, gloves, sunscreen, all tools, plants and materials, and a free lunch from noon-1pm.
» Register by tomorrow, August 28, at livegreenhume.eventbrite.com.au for catering purposes.
