Ukes of Hazzard tug at the heartstrings

THE ‘Ukes of Hazzard’ take no prisoners when it comes to capturing audiences with their string-picking version of Somewhere over the Rainbow.

The seven-piece ukulele ensemble shows the resurging popularity of the
instrument as part of Thomastown Secondary College’s musical showcase, Visions,
in which 90 students perform in various groups.

College musical
co-ordinator Jimi Lundy says people around the world have embraced the
ukulele, but it is only part of the show, which includes the school’s
VCE group performance, a jazz quintet and string ensemble.

The school’s
VCE music students will also launch their CD Let The Music Play Part II.

The Visions
concert is on September 3 and 4 at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment
Centre, 387 Bell Street, Preston.  Tickets: adult $20, student 10, family
of four $50, telephone: 9465 0844.
