SUNBURY OUT OF HUME

■ I am disappointed by comments made by Cr Ann Potter about the proposed Avenue of Honour and ‘Sunbury out of Hume’. Rather than saying it’s all too hard and costs too much, how about she support the wishes of her electorate, which overwhelmingly supports both projects?

Her comments on Sunbury out of Hume continue a long opposition, which beggars belief. Sunbury is unique. Its geography, history and demographics are unlike anything in Melbourne.

Her own supporters can see the benefits of a Sunbury council-local government based in Sunbury, with its only interest in making Sunbury better.

The previous poll was overwhelming and I expect the October poll will be also, even with the KPMG misinformation based on untested and non-specific hypotheticals.

Playing politics is fine if your community supports your stance. However, in both instances, I suspect the tide has turned. Bring on the vote that counts. Sunbury deserves to stand on its own!

LAWRENCE SEYERS SUNBURY

■ The KPMG report on the separation of Sunbury from Hume City Council does not say rates will rise – it says they might rise. The whole report is hypothetical, not based on real case studies or what the community called for. It is simply one possibility with a very government spin.

Listen to the people, Minister Powell. We want our own shire, to maintain our identity.

Mansfield and many other councils smaller than the “proposed’’ Sunbury shire are able to function well and service the needs of their community without the ridiculous rates rises Hume and this government think we should be paying. Boundaries are not yet determined.

We can have our say on that to the panel that will decide the boundaries. Vote yes for Sunbury!

RISING STAR

■ Hadfield’s Hisham Kerbatieh is the best young gun, a quality player for his age, very nice skills. He will be better than Trengove. I wish him all the best.
