Thomastown fire threatens home, substation

FIREFIGHTERS took almost an hour to put out a factory blaze in Thomastown early this morning.

The fire in the unoccupied factory in Dunstan Court threatened neighbouring factories and fire crews were concerned about a nearby power substation, a Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokesman said.

But power company representatives arrived and confirmed the power was disconnected, he said.

The alarm was raised at 4.50am and it took 55 firefighters 50 minutes to contain the blaze.
