Mernda Villages residents are the latest group to join a service to share communal tools and equipment.
Open Shed is an online community rental service where members of a suburb or region borrow, use and return items such as tools, garden equipment, toys, camping and sporting gear.
The service is designed to “help reduce the cost of living” and benefit the environment. Mernda Villages is one of five Stockland residential estates piloting the program around Australia.
Mernda’s Amy Bester (pictured with her son Tyler) says the program is good for people with smaller properties and less storage space. She says it could save people buying expensive equipment they don’t use regularly.
